Good to know
Is Hong Kong Zoological and Botanical Gardens free to enter?
Yes. Admission is free at the time of writing, with no online or gate ticket required. You do not need a paid sightseeing pass to visit.
What are the opening hours?
At the time of writing, the fountain terrace opens 5am–10pm, the greenhouse and Education and Exhibition Centre open 9am–4:30pm, and other areas open 6am–7pm. Check the official Leisure and Cultural Services Department website for today’s hours and closures.
How long should a visit take, and how do you get there?
Allow about 1–2 hours for a general visit. The garden is on Albany Road in Central. Walking from Central involves an uphill approach; a bus or taxi can reduce the climb.
Is the garden suitable for strollers and wheelchair users?
The hillside terrain needs planning. Ask staff about suitable step-free routes, gradients and the connection between the eastern and western gardens. Do not assume every path or viewing area is equally accessible.
Are animal sightings or feeding sessions guaranteed?
No. Animals may be out of sight, and individual enclosures may close. Do not plan around a guaranteed show or feeding session; ask staff about any advertised activities on the day, and never feed the animals yourself.
Can you bring food and drinking water?
Bring drinking water for the walk. Before eating packed food, check current notices and use only a permitted area away from animal viewing. Keep food away from animals, dispose of rubbish responsibly, and ask staff about available drinking-water facilities.
